Corporation Profile

【1】Seafood export from Japan

We export Mackerel, Sardine, Horse mackerel, Pacific saury, Yellowtail, Alaska pollock, Skipjack, Albacore etc caught in Japanese shoreline to foreign countries. There are plenty of landing ports in seashore, where many packers are located there. Fish are caught by purse seiners, small trawlers, Long liners, fixed shore net.
However we had not done with effective utilization of resources and been obligated to supply it for Fish meal and Bait for aqua-farming. Total volume of fish consumption per person in Japan is top class in the world, but Japanese do not enjoy small size fish, less fat fish on the table, contrary to large volume import from the world. We export fish which people do not have and contribute on utilization of low valued fish for productivity and efficiency of the fishing industry

Looking Back on the Past 13 Years

Thirteen years have passed since our company's founding in 2013. Back then, even as Japan's seafood landings experienced fluctuating catches, I never doubted that Japan's fisheries?especially its coastal fishing industry, surrounded by sea on all sides?would never decline. Yet now, rising sea temperatures and shifting currents due to global warming are disrupting the marine food chain.

The affordable, delicious fish that have long supported coastal fishing and processing?Squid, Mackerel, Pacific saury, Horse mackerel, Salmon, and others?have seen their catches plummet to about 10-20% of their peak levels. Fishermen, Processors, Distributors, and even the Restaurant and Retail sectors are crying out in distress.

Meanwhile, inbound tourists visiting Japan are becoming familiar with Japanese cuisine, discovering its deliciousness, and returning home to enjoy Japanese restaurants locally. Today, Toyosu Market is a hub for exporting fresh seafood overseas. Premium seasonal seafood right before our eyes is packed in Styrofoam boxes with ice packs and shipped overseas from Narita and Haneda airports. The weak yen further accelerates this trend.

For Japanese people, including general consumers, this situation will likely only worsen further; it will never return to previous landings levels. It's unimaginable that the fish species and catch volumes landed in Choshi would be similarly landed in Sanriku or Hokkaido. A simple northward shift of fishing grounds is impossible.

Our company set the goal of leading the spread of Japanese cuisine through seafood exports. With our limited resources, beyond exporting a small amount of fresh seafood, we attempted ventures into Beef, Rice, Sake, and Sushi ingredients. However, we avoided taking risks, failed to dig deep, and time passed. Nevertheless, Japan as a whole has exported these products as staple items overseas. Alongside increasing volumes, a wide range of other ingredients like tea, fruit, and eggs are now exported. Furthermore, restaurant chains serving sushi, ramen, and other Japanese fare are rapidly expanding overseas. Amidst the globalization of food and declining landings and harvests, what should Japanese companies strive for?

I intend to dedicate the next five years to finding that answer. And in five years, I hope to revisit this message and reflect on what I have accomplished.
